Informing, uniting and mobilizing volunteers concerned about our environment. The local branch aims to relay Surfrider’s information and values throughout the region during sporting events or general public programs.

What is a local branch?

Participating in an associative project:
Surfrider is fighting five wars, which are all areas of work for the local branches: water quality and health, aquatic waste, maritime transportation and infrastructures, coastal artificialization and climate change, heritage, and waves. Each branch defines its action according to its areas of influence and sets short and long-term goals, which fall within the scope of the organization’s areas of work.

The volunteers and the structure:
Whether 2 or 20 volunteers make up the branch, it does not have an imposed form. However, roles are shared, and members meet regularly to prepare their actions. We accompany the volunteers to a structure adapted to their fight and areas of work.

Local actions and local role:
The branches lead a variety of field actions and innovate to increase the visibility of their fight. Some examples :
– Raising awareness among young people in schools with educational materials, activities, film viewing, etc.
– Organizing of beach, lake and river cleanings, either with a group of children or with the general public
– Participating in or organizing events, such as sports competitions, festivals, etc.
– Local monitoring of environmental problems
